I was born in South Africa and grew up in the Northen Bushveld area of the country. From an early age I was exposed to art at home and wherever outside.

My father is a photographer and from an early age I was traveling with my family to various game reserves and national parks around Southern Africa. This is where I learned to love and respect nature.

I later studied to become a teacher and taught various subjects including art. My interest stayed alive through decoration painting but it wasn’t really until I got married and moved to Sweden that I made the effort to do various courses in painting, drawing, croquet, graphical printing and pottery. After moving to Kenya I met various artists and visited some studios.

 Here I combined my design ideas with the new technique of using glue to build up small and large collages. I have been working with a group of artists called Ya- Africa and helped promoting these artists through group exhibitions and building a website: www.artyaafrica.com.

I have participated in group exhibitions in South Africa and Sweden, the National Museum in Nairobi, the RAMOMA art gallery, Hongs Bakery and in March a collection of one year’s work at the Village Market Exhibition Hall. Currently I have an exhibition running at the Windsor Hotel and Country Club.

My work is mostly experimental in the use of local materials from different parts of East Africa. I like to play with textures and natural colours. I do not like to reproduce work and believe art should be original in the way we express our creativity. Ancient rock art is often incorporated in my paintings and I often compare the ancient art forms to our modern society.

I normally work with one or two pieces simultaneously, slowly building up the materials over time. The end result is always surprising…but that is what I love the timeless journey and a different destination.
